One League, Two Teams, Much Love!
Last season, some long-time HCRG fans wondered why there were no classic Harlots vs. Dames bouts. Instead of putting our energies into battling each other, our skaters thought, why not focus on being competitive at the highest, most dazzling levels of international derby play? So in 2011 we took a leap of faith and dissolved our home team structure – bidding farewell to the Hamilton Harlots and the Death Row Dames – to create two teams that play against other leagues in Canada and the US, and not against each other.
The chartered Hammer City Eh! Team represents the league in sanctioned WFTDA bouts and tournaments that count towards international WFTDA rankings, while the Hammer City Harlots compete against other teams at a more local level.
The rosters for each team are fluid, as skaters are given the opportunity for movement between teams. This structure means HCRG improves as a league, as our skaters constantly strive for “Eh!”-level skills. No matter what team our skaters are rostered for on bout night, dedication to HCRG and our love for the game goes unquestioned. That’s why we all proudly wear black and gold!
