Derby 101

This course is open to beginners who want to learn the game of flat track roller derby, and is the first step to becoming a Hammer City Roller Girl. If you’re determined, dedicated, and team-oriented, we want to hear from you! Whether you want to do the sport for recreation or dream of becoming a hard hitting competitor in our league, our experienced skaters will teach you the skating and derby-playing skills you’ll need to know.

Important Information for Derby 101:
WHEN:	The next start date for Derby 101 will be on Monday, February 6th, 2012 at 6:30pm. Sessions are 1 hour, every Monday, for 8 weeks. Note that the first session will be for registration, followed by 8 skating sessions. The meeting location on February 6th will be This Ain’t Hollywood,** 345 James St N, Hamilton
WHERE:	Caledonia Fairgrounds: 151 Caithness Street East, Caledonia, Ontario, Canada. Free parking is available.
COST:	Training by skilled members of the HCRG for $80.00, plus the cost of RSC Insurance ($50.00). Total – $130.00
SAFETY GEAR:	Every derby girl needs her gear! We use skateboarder style knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, helmet, mouth guard and quad roller skates. Roller derby is a full-contact sport and it is very important to have good quality protective gear that fits properly. Roughhouse Skates on 592 Upper James St. in Hamilton sells beginner ‘fresh meat’ packages: Visit Roughhouse online!
INSURANCE:	CWRDA Insurance is mandatory. All skaters must bring a piece of photo identification (i.e. driver’s licence) to the ‘Meat N Greet’ event (February 6th at 6:30pm) in order to skate the first session. Good quality photocopies with a clear photograph may also be accepted.
