Derby 101 is open to beginners 18 years+ who want to learn the game of flat track roller derby. Derby 101 is the first step toward becoming a Hammer City Roller Girl. Hammer City Derby 101 training sessions are run in the Fall, Winter and Spring and each session is 10 weeks long. If you’re determined, dedicated, and team-oriented, we want to hear from you!
Derby 101 starts out with a no-commitment meet and greet and gear session where you can meet experienced skaters and learn more about our training program. Most importantly, you will have an opportunity to talk to individuals who have recently completed Derby 101. These folks are in the best position to give you an idea of what you’ll experience. The meet and greet is held in an informal setting where you can get a feel for who we are and see if HCRG is right for you.
No experience? No problem! During the 10-week Derby 101 training session our experienced skaters will teach you the skating and derby skills you’ll need to learn. Hammer City’s program is specifically designed to help you build your roller derby know-how and skills in a safe and supportive environment.
Once you graduate from Derby 101 you will be eligible to join Smash Squad where you will continue to hone your derby prowess while working towards becoming an HCRG league skater.
