The Hammer City Roller Girls kick off a decade of derby in Hamilton with a double-header against the Renegade Derby Dames of Alliston, Ontario.

The Eh! Team takes on the Striking Vikings and the Harlots go up against the Bombshell Battalion. Come on out and watch the Hammer go BOOM!

Dave Andreychuk (Mountain) Arena, 25 Hester Street in Hamilton is the place to be on May 2, 2015 to see it all go down. Doors open at 5:00 pm with the first game set to start at 6:00 pm and the second at 8:00 pm.

Essential info:

* The arena floor is licensed. Sit trackside with a beer in hand
* Concession stand will be open for food and drinks
* Bring a lawn chair to sit trackside for the best view
* Kids 13 and under are free, with a special activity table just for them
* Awesome HCRG swag for sale

10 Years of Derby: Announcing our 2015 Home Season

Hammer City kicks off its historic tenth season of competitive roller derby in Hamilton with a double header on Saturday, May 2 as both the Hammer City Eh! Team and the Hammer City Harlots take on teams from the Renegade Derby Dames. HCRG keeps on rolling with double headers in June and August, plus bouts on the road and other special events to be unveiled during this anniversary season.

Roller Derby Art Crawl Exhibit

Fast skates, hard hits, and great feats of female athleticism are all part of this sport that’s taken the world by storm. This Ain’t Hollywood and the Hammer City Roller Girls are hosting an Art Crawl exhibit that will feature artistic interpretations of roller derby by Hammer City skaters and their supporters.

In addition to seeing fantastic art, you’ll be able to pick up cool merchandise and season tickets, learn about joining us (we’re recruiting!), pick up scrumptious homemade baked goods and nosh on BBQ hot dogs. Funds raised will help with our travel costs for our upcoming season.

Super Shiny Boot Camp with Sarah Hipel

Looking to elevate your derby game? Join Team Canada and Texecutioners superstar Sarah Hipel for a full day of conditioning, skills and strategy focused on becoming a smarter, more dynamic team player. Get ready to sweat, work hard, and learn all the things!

COST: Skaters $65 / Spectators $15

Registration: 9:30 am
Morning Classes: 10:00 – 12:30
Lunch/Q&A: 12:30 – 1:30 pm
Afternoon Classes: 1:30 – 5:00 pm

Space is limited to ensure that skaters get individual attention. Register as early as you can, in order to ensure your spot. BUY TICKETS

Note that different skill levels are welcome, but you must have passed the WFTDA minimum skill requirements.

Coach/spectator passes are also available for $15 each.

Please bring: black and white shirts with your number clearly displayed, a water bottle/sport beverages, lunch (or lunch money), and snacks. There are some quick lunch options within a short drive.

About Sarah Hipel
Sarah Hipel believes in an open approach to playing, leading, and learning the sport of roller derby while loving the fun of roller skating itself. After a decade in the sport she has refined her approach to an ethos of freely sharing everything she knows while trying to absorb all that she can. Sarah sees our sport as constantly evolving and derives enjoyment from playing with both game theory and skating skills.

Sarah has continuously held a roster spot on a top 10 team and played in 13 WFTDA Big 5 tournaments, first with the Detroit Derby Girls then the Texas Rollergirls where she is currently the co-captain of the Texecutioners. She is one of the most experienced players in the game and continues to develop cross training techniques, coaching, and the skills and strategy of the sport itself. Sarah has held major roles in the WFDTA and her home leagues. She also owns and operates Faster Skates.

The Hammer City Roller Girls are looking for new skaters just like you! No experience? No problem? While a sports background is definitely a plus, we are a super friendly league that welcomes fresh meat of all experiences and abilities.

Come on out to our no-obligation Skate Night to learn more about joining our league through our proven Derby 101 program. Learn more about our training program, get your questions answered, lace on some skates, and talk to skaters who have gone through the Derby 101 program. They’ll be able to tell you first hand what you can expect (which is a whole lot of awesome, by the way).

The Derby 101 program starts on April 15, and is open to beginners 18 years+ who want to learn the game of flat track roller derby. It’s the first step towards becoming a Hammer City Roller Girl. During the 10-week program our trainers will teach you the skating and derby skills you’ll need to learn. Our program is specifically designed to help you build your roller derby know-how and skills in a safe and supportive environment.

Once you graduate from Derby 101 you will be eligible to join Smash Squad where you will continue to hone your derby prowess while working towards becoming an HCRG league skater.

Family Day Scrimmage

February 4th, 2015


Hi skaters! We’re celebrating Family Day with our derby family this year and hosting a free scrimmage on Sunday, February 15th, and we’d love to see you there!

- Open to anyone who has passed the WFTDA minimums skills assessment, and has valid roller derby insurance
- All skaters should bring a black and white shirt, with their numbers in high contrast at least 4 inches tall
- Bring a water bottle and snacks

There is no cost or pre-registration.

LOCATION:
Caledonia Fairgrounds Arena, 151 Caithness St E, Caledonia
Our arena is unheated. Please wear LAYERS!

Schedule:
11:45 – Venue arrival time
12:00-12:15pm – Open skate time
12:15-12:25pm – Group warm-up
12:30pm – First whistle
**there will be three 30 minute periods

All skaters will be asked to sign a CRDi insurance waiver before skating. We’ll ask for your legal name, skater name, insurance number and signature.

Hi skaters! Is your league on a winter break? Need a derby fix? The Hammer City Roller Girls are hosting a free holiday scrimmage on Sunday, December 14th, and we’d love to see you there!

- Open to anyone who has passed the WFTDA minimums skills assessment, and has valid roller derby insurance
- All skaters should bring a black and white shirt, with their numbers in high contrast at least 4 inches tall
- Bring a water bottle and snacks

There is no cost but you MUST register in advance through this form

Brawl by the Bay: Hammer City’s Free Annual Free Outdoor Bout

One of Hammer City Roller Girls’ most anticipated events returns for the fifth year.

For the first and only time this season, the league’s skaters will divide into two squads and face off against each other in an epic, full-length, full-contact roller derby battle on the outdoor flat track.

This bout will pay tribute to Hamilton and all the wonderful things that make this city great – from the Hamilton Waterfront Trust’s amazing skate pad locale, to the team names, and to YOU, the fans! As our thank you for your continued support, admission to the game is FREE. We encourage you to bring non-perishable food items, as we will be collecting to benefit local families.

This will be your only chance to see Hammer City skaters play against each other this year. Watch cagey vets, breakout stars, and daring rookies all mix it up. Don’t miss out on this very special bout!

Maple Stir-Up is Tomorrow

O Canada! Our home and native land may be synonymous with many things – hockey, snow, and saying sorry to name a few – but did you know that the Great White North is home to a growing community of truly exceptional roller derby leagues and teams?

It is with true patriot love and spirit that Hammer City invites you to the Maple Stir-Up Invitational roller derby tournament, happening tomorrow!
It’s the first-ever roller derby tournament to feature an all-Canadian roster of Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) teams (Calgary Roller Derby Association, the Forest City Derby Girls, the Rideau Valley Roller Girls, Tri-City Roller Derby, and us!).

VENUE ALERT: Please note that the tournament will take place at Morgan Firestone Arena, 385 Jerseyville Rd W in Ancaster. Some of our previous communications have the old venue listed. Doors open at 9 am with the first bout at 10 am.

SCHEDULE:
10am – Calgary vs Rideau Valley
12pm – Hammer City vs Forest City
4pm – Forest City vs Calgary
6pm – Hammer City Harlots (B) vs Tri-City Plan-B
8pm – Hammer City vs Rideau Valley

Discounted tickets are available online until midnight tonight. ($17 for full day/$13 for last 2 bouts only)

Tickets will also be available at the door for $15/20. Kids 12 and under are free.

The event is licensed. There will be limited food concessions.

The after party will be at This Ain’t Hollywood. Free admission with your ticket/wristband.
